FAQ-001● Score & flags
# 01

What is an ApeFax Score?

A 0-100 composite read of buyer risk on a BAYC. It weights Ownership History (50%) and Sales History (50%). Metadata Integrity is a fail-closed gate, and market signals remain visible context without entering the grade. Methodology 1.2.0 weights only Ownership History and Sales History, 50% each. Metadata Integrity is a fail-closed gate: a canonically confirmed missing image or incomplete trait coverage makes the grade ungradeable instead of shaving a few points. A transient unresolved image remains disclosed but does not block the grade. Market signals remain visible buyer context and contribute zero grade weight; fair value remains a separate model. Minted certificates freeze the score and constant-tree hash stamped at mint. A high score means the record looks cleaner - not that the ape is guaranteed to perform.

FAQ-001A● Score & flags
# 02

What’s the difference between the score, the tier, and rarity?

The score is the 0-100 grade. The tier is the band that grade lands in - Legendary, Epic, Rare, Uncommon, or Common - so it is a range label, not a second score. Rarity is separate: the ape’s trait rank or scarcity axis. ApeFax shows rarity beside the grade, but rarity does not get folded into the integrity grade.

FAQ-001B● Score & flags
# 03

Why don’t you include traits or rarity in the score?

Because the grade answers one question: can you trust this ape’s history. Traits do not bear on that. A grail is no more or less likely to have been wash traded, self dealt, or passed through a sanctioned wallet than a common ape, so folding rarity into the grade would add no forensic signal - it would only make a rare ape look safer than it is. Worse, it would let a wash traded grail outrank an ape with a spotless history, which is the opposite of what this grade is for. Rarity is also already published free by every marketplace and rarity tool, so blending it in would dilute the one read that is ours and duplicate one you can get anywhere. We show rarity beside the grade instead, and traits do carry real weight where they belong - in fair value, which weighs trait premiums and comparable sales.

# 04

How does ApeFax detect wash trades?

Multi-signal: repeated wallet loops (A->B->A), both-sides trading, time bursts, self-trades, young-wallet pairings, contract-wallet pairings, and marketplace-specific farming patterns. Signals are scored together so one weird sale will not trigger a fake panic. You also get the proof behind the label, not just a badge.

FAQ-003● Product
# 05

What does ApeFax cost?

View Unlock is live at 0.01 ETH with 30-day full Fax access on any BAYC. Any wallet; no cert NFT. On-chain certificate minting, Bundle, Re-mint, and Founders Pass remain closed pending founder decisions on the outstanding review items, deployment, and founder approval. Join the waitlist. ApeFax Certificates are currently secure, tamper-resistant records in the ApeFax database, not on-chain NFTs. Contract v3 is frozen; external review was delivered and signed off 2026-09-06. Minting remains closed pending founder decisions, deployment, and founder approval.

FAQ-004● Pricing
# 06

How is fair value calculated?

ApeFax evaluates collection floor, receipt-verified comparable sales, the selected trait stack, sale history, and verified lineage context. Score remains buyer-risk context, not a price layer. Bundles, NFT-for-NFT swaps, wash-suspect sales, and reverted trades are excluded; stablecoin sales convert at the historical rate. When calibration or evidence gates fail, ApeFax withholds the point and band instead of substituting the floor or guessing. Receipt-verified comparable sales may still appear as evidence with transaction links.

FAQ-005● Product
# 07

What’s a "saved fax" - do I always get the latest data?

A saved fax is the snapshot you paid for at the time you unlocked it. ApeFax can later detect when live conditions materially changed, but it does not silently overwrite the original report. If you want the updated version, you re-pull it at a 50% discount (0.005 Ξ).

FAQ-006● Data & sources
# 08

Does ApeFax cover MAYC, BAKC, Otherdeed, and Koda?

BAYC is the primary live product today. MAYC, BAKC, Otherdeed, Otherdeed Expanded, and Koda already appear in lineage and roadmap surfaces, but coverage depth still varies by asset and source quality. ApeFax only renders token-level family links when the mapping is verified.

FAQ-007● Data & sources
# 09

Where does ApeFax data come from?

Bitquery, OpenSea, Alchemy, Gondi, the Chainalysis sanctions oracle, direct on-chain contract reads, and our own analysis layers. Different sections use different source priorities - Bitquery for settled trades and transfers, OpenSea for floor, listings, and canonical sale price, Gondi for lending, Chainalysis for OFAC screening - and live availability can change how much depth shows locally versus in production. The goal is to show both the read and the confidence behind it.

FAQ-008● Product
# 10

Is it safe to connect my wallet?

Connecting your wallet is for authentication and account state, not custody. ApeFax does not need NFT approvals to show reports, and manual delegated wallets are view-only convenience for asset discovery. Payments, credits, and unlock history stay tied to the connected SIWE wallet.

FAQ-009● Score & flags
# 11

What is provenance risk?

ApeFax's read on whether the ape's history contains theft, sanctions, dormancy-to-dump behavior, or other context a buyer should price in. Combines marketplace flags, sanctions checks, and transfer-pattern analysis. Clean provenance is not a guarantee; it means no meaningful red flags were found in the available record.

FAQ-010● Legal
# 12

Does ApeFax give investment advice?

No. ApeFax is a due-diligence tool, not a buy recommendation or price guarantee. It helps you inspect history, risk, and value mechanics before a trade. The decision and the risk still belong to the buyer.

FAQ-011● Legal
# 13

Does ApeFax confirm my ape has no OFAC sanctions?

No - not as a compliance determination. We screen the ape’s direct ownership chain at the time the fax is generated using a versioned mirror of the official U.S. Treasury OFAC SDN data and the Chainalysis on-chain sanctions oracle. A positive from either source is disclosed; an unavailable or unverifiable source is not treated as clean. We disclose exactly what we find, including specific addresses and dates. We deliberately do not certify an asset’s sanctions status, because that is a determination we are not positioned to make. Our screening is direct-chain only: it does not model wallet clustering, indirect exposure, or derivative funding. For transactions in regulated jurisdictions, consult qualified counsel - ApeFax provides forensic information, not legal advice.

FAQ-012● Legal
# 14

My ape’s cert showed no OFAC matches, but an address is now sanctioned. Refund?

The cert reflects screening at the time it was generated; OFAC designations can be applied to addresses later, including retroactively - a known limit of point-in-time screening that every fax discloses. We do not issue refunds for subsequent designations, but we will make it right: we can re-issue you a fresh fax view at no charge, and if a cert mint ever fails on our end we will add a mint credit so you can re-mint without paying again. For ongoing compliance obligations you need specialist tools (e.g. Chainalysis, TRM, Elliptic) and qualified counsel - ApeFax is a data point in your diligence, not a substitute for it.

Ready to fax an ape?

Search a BAYC and pull the receipts.

Start with a showcase ape, a recent dump, or a full-lineage case. The cert is the product.
